Loveland Habitat for Humanity (LHFH) is a Christian based housing ministry that displays the love and care of Jesus Christ through our work in the community. LHFH partners with many local organizations to fullfill its mission. One such group is the Faith-Based Community through Faith Relations. The purpose of the Faith Relations team is to support the overall mission statement of LHFH by increasing partnership between LHFH and the local faith communities. We will partner with local churches (big and small, all faiths and denominations) to meet the needs of the local faith communities and to advance Habitat’s mission. We seek to understand the needs and goals of individual churches and how LHFH can help.
Habitat Facts:
It’s been 23 years and 87 houses since Loveland Habitat for Humanity opened its doors and set out to help deserving families in the community have a simple, decent, affordable place to live.
LHFH builds homes in partnership with low income families and sells the home to the family at a no profit and no interest.
When surveyed, Habitat parents report a decrease in anxiety levels and an increase in self esteem and security in their children.
We have an entire “Toolbox” of ways you can partner!
1) Building Up the Church
- Demonstrate the love and teachings of Jesus Christ.
- Let Habitat serve your church membership (i.e. make a difference in a family’s life by providing safe, affordable housing for those in need).
- Help the church fulfill its mission to minister to those in need.
- Home repair and remodeling for those in need (i.e. “A Brush with Kindness”).
- Increase strength and unity in congregation.
- Serve locally in Loveland or around the world (i.e. send a group on a Global Village trip).
- Use your spiritual gifts.
- Construction site volunteering.
- Provide expertise to a committee (i.e. Family Selection; Land Development, etc.).
2) Prayer
- Participate in a focused week or month of prayer for Habitat, volunteers and the families we serve (prayer cards or scripture guide can be provided).
- Visit a home construction site to pray.
- Kids in the children’s ministry write prayers to give to the Habitat family. This is a way young kids can participate in the Habitat projects since they are not able to work at the site until they are 14.
3) Financial Partnership
- Partnership with your Missions Committee (or equivalent).
- Special offerings (i.e. in regular services, “piggy banks” for children’s classrooms, etc.).
- Home sponsorship
- Fundraisers
- Regular donations
4) Provide In-Kind Goods and Services
- Collect donations and donate to ReStore.
- Volunteer to supply water and snacks at a site; to groundbreakings / dedications.
- Volunteer at the ReStore, construction sites or office.
- Provide a Bible to a Habitat family at their home dedication.
5) Education
- Be an advocate for affordable housing.
- Share the Habitat message with children, family, friends, etc.
6) Homeownership for Families
- Informational table before, after or between services.
- Posters and / or fliers for church bulletin.
- Homeowner orientation meeting for groups interested in partnering / learning more about Habitat.
- “Mission Moment” during services.
- Video & fliers during services.
- Presentations to small groups.
- Adaptable to different media formats to present message.
