"Perhaps the question is not, ‘Can we afford to provide decent housing and basic services for all humans?’ Rather, it is ‘Can we—the human species—afford not to?’"

Loveland Habitat ED Named Executive Director of the Year

Loveland Habitat for Humanity Executive Director Gwen Stephenson has been named Executive Director of the Year and been awarded the Annual Leadership Award by Habitat for Humanity of Colorado (HFHC). Stephenson received her award during the recent Camp Colorado Retreat attended by Habitat affiliates from four western states and their more than 260 team members.

Each year HFHC requests Executive Director of the Year nominations from a the Colorado, Wyoming, New Mexico and Wyoming affiliates, with the criteria being the fulfillment of a quote describing the nominees’ leadership qualities. This year’s quote, chosen by HFHC staff, came from Vince Lombardi: “Individual commitment to a group effort – that is what makes team work, a company work, a society work, a civilization work.”

Stephenson’s nominations came from Loveland Habitat staff, Board Members and other local non-profit leaders.

In accepting her award during a dinner ceremony at Camp Colorado, Stephenson said, “A leader is a nobody without the great people around them. I have the great honor of working with the best staff, volunteers, and Habitat folks there are. Without everyone working together, this organization would not have impacted the hundreds of families in Loveland, the thousands of families in Colorado and millions of families around the world!” She add that as a third-generation Coloradoan, she has seen numerous changes in the state, – especially in the area of affordable housing.

Prior to joining Loveland Habitat for Humanity as the ED in November of 2007, Stephenson served as the Executive Director of the House of Neighborly service for 7.5 years. She also served on the Loveland Habitat Board of Directors from 2002-2004.

Loveland Habitat Golf Tourney Just Weeks Away!

Dust off the golf clubs and get ready to tee it up for a great cause on Saturday, June 19, as Loveland Habitat for Humanity hosts its second annual fundraising golf tournament at Mariana Butte in Loveland.

Presented by Alicia Stewart of Keller Williams Realty, the 8 a.m. shotgun scramble will benefit Habitat’s Thrivent Builds Home currently under construction for a Loveland family. The Thrivent Builds Homes program is designed to financially support the construction of hundreds of Habitat homes annually in the United States. Thrivent Financial provides the majority of the construction costs for each home, with remaining funding generated by Habitat affiliates and their supporters.

The tournament fee of $125 per person includes all course fees, cart rental, a fabulous lunch and awards program, a drawing ticket, a goody bag and a chance to win great prizes from the Pro Shop at Mariana Butte. Golfers will also enjoy complimentary beer from Rock Bottom Brewery, team photos, a silent auction, a 50/50 game, a $50 gift certificate to the stores4golfers.com store and many more additional surprises. For those players who love a challenge, the Loveland Habitat Tournament offers a great challenge on select Par 3 holes with a chance to win – with a Hole-In-One – a Bose Wave Music System, a $500 Visa Gift Card, a choice of new Nike Golf Clubs and a trip to Hawaii!

“Our organization is very excited about the tournament and so grateful it was brought to us by Alicia Stewart. This is a great opportunity for people to come out, have a fabulous day of fun and golf, and help raise money for an awesome cause. We are so excited about this annual event and want to thank the local community for all their support of the golf tournament!” said Gwen Stephenson, Executive Director of Loveland Habitat for Humanity. “With all the proceeds staying right here in Loveland and building a home for a local family, people have a great opportunity to be directly involved with the mission of Habitat, which is offering a hand up not a hand out as we try to truly breaking the cycle of poverty.”

In addition to team and individual spots being available, sponsorships are also still available for the event.  Sponsors receive numerous benefits and at some levels receive multiple players in the tournament. The Ranch in Loveland Decends on The ReStore!

Employees from Larimer County, Global Spectrum, and Ovations (The Ranch in Loveland)  came out in force to the Loveland Habitat for Humanity ReStore recently to volunteer! What a great group of people; they had that store straightened and sparkling in just 3 hours and had fun doing it.  The ReStore and Habitat rely on its awesome volunteers to help build homes for deserving families through all volunteer opportunities! Thank you Volunteers! The Ranch Employees just released this news story to the media and we want to share it!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

LARIMER COUNTY AND GLOBAL SPECTRUM EMPLOYEES

GIVE BACK, AT HABITAT FOR HUMANITY

EMPLOYEES VOLUNTEER THEIR TIME, TO RESTOCK THE RESTORE

Loveland, CO – Habitat for Humanity is an International nonprofit that survives solely on volunteer labor and donations. The employees of Larimer County, Global Spectrum, and Ovations teamed up Tuesday morning to re-stock, clean, and price items at the ReStore in Loveland.

“It’s important for us to give back to the communities we serve all year long,” said Global Spectrum’s Rick Hontz, General Manager of Budweiser Events Center. “We enjoy helping Habitat for Humanity because they really need our help and the strength of volunteers to continue their amazing public service.”

Habitat for Humanity is not a give away program. In addition to the ReStore, where items are reasonably priced and affordable, houses are built upon a monthly mortgage and ‘sweaty equity’ program. Every adult resident is required to invest hundreds of hours into their own home, the ReStore, or in the houses of others. Habitat houses are sold to partner families at zero profit and financed with affordable loans.

Larimer County’s Bob Herrfeldt, Director of The Ranch said, “There are so many families in need right here in our own backyard and it’s wonderful partnering with an organization like Habitat, who takes every donation and puts it to use. Everything donated is used either by someone locally, or in third world countries.”

The Ranch, Larimer County Fairgrounds and Events Complex, located in Loveland, CO, opened in 2003 and is owned and operated by Larimer County.  The Ranch consists of the Budweiser Events Center, a 7,200 seat multi-purpose arena managed by Global Spectrum, the Ranch-Way Feeds Indoor Arena and Livestock Pavilions, the First National Bank Exhibition Halls, and the Thomas M. McKee 4-H, Youth & Community Building.  The Ranch hosts more than 2,000 events annually and is home to the Larimer County Fair and Rodeo.  For more information, visit www.TREventComplex.com.

Global Spectrum (global-spectrum.com), the fastest growing firm in the public assembly facility management field with more than 85 facilities throughout the United States and Canada, manages Budweiser Events Center at The Ranch. The 7,200 seat multi-purpose venue, which opened in September 2003, is owned by Larimer County and home to the Colorado Eagles of the Central Hockey League and the Colorado ICE of the United Indoor Football League.
